The Somerset Guardian, 31st October 2018

Last Saturday I visited the newly-opened Saltford Community Post Office. Following the closure of the village Post Office, members of the community worked together to provide a much-needed facility for the village, all organised by volunteers.

I was most impressed to meet the volunteers, who have undertaken proper Post Office training and are currently running it on Fridays and Saturdays with a paid employee running the Office for the rest of the week. The Post Office shares the space with the Community Library.  I think that it is an excellent idea to have them side by side where people can take advantage of both facilities, especially if they can only take a journey there once a week.

The number of people using the Post Office while I was there was testament to how much Saltford needs this amenity. I even had to apologise for causing a queue as I had been talking to constituents who were manning the counter.

Everyone who has been involved in this commendable community project should feel so proud, it really shows how much can be achieved by people working together. I was pleased that I was able to help in a small way by making representations when there were a few delays with the Post Office application. If any other communities in the constituency are considering a similar project then please do get in touch, I would be delighted to help in any way that I can.
