The Farrington Gurney Parish Journal, Nov/Dec 2020

As you will be aware, Parliament continues to sit, but the number of Members in the Chamber at any one time is much reduced.  A number of MPs have, however, suggested that this should not occur owing to current social distancing measures and Covid-19 infection rates.

It is undoubtedly important to ensure our safety and that of those around us by taking sensible precautions to reduce the risk of the transmission of infection. It is, however, important for Members of Parliament to get on and do our duty rather than democracy being suspended when doctors are at work, nurses are at work and supermarket workers are at work.

Members should be responsible and socially distance in the queues to vote but they also have a duty to be in Parliament to represent their constituents and vote to ensure that democracy is not suspended whilst doctors, nurses and supermarket workers are at work.
