The Farrington Gurney Parish Journal, January 2019

The New Year represents change and new resolutions.  This is as much the case in Parliament, as Members of Parliament return to Westminster, as it is elsewhere.

Whilst much of the next few months will focus upon Brexit, several other important issues will continue to be discussed in the House, including the transition from legacy benefits to the newer Universal Credits system.

Many of my constituents in North East Somerset will have experienced or know someone who is in the process of changing to the new system as it is now a Full Universal Credit area.  Whilst overall the principles behind Universal Credit are excellent, problems have occurred during the rollout which have caused difficulties for claimants. I have spoken publicly about this and was delighted that the Chancellor announced changes at the budget to ease the transition.

I have helped a number of constituents who have encountered problems migrating to Universal Credit.  If you know of anyone experiencing difficulties, please do encourage them to get in contact and I will do my best to help.

As usual I can be contacted by constituents via email: jacob.reesmogg.mp@parliament.uk, by telephone: 0207 219 7118 or by writing to the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
